Scene Study
Skip Greer
Where do I begin? Who is that person on the other side of the stage? In the moment? Inner monologue? Play the opposite? What?!? How do I know if I’m making the “right” choice?
In this class we will use scene work as a laser beam to focus on exploring the tools that an actor uses to create a character and then we will provide a safe space to propel that character into action in service of the play. Students must come prepared to work, risk, laugh, trust and grow. This class is an incubator that affords us the opportunity to push each other safely for the chance to astonish. In short, we create magic, and I can’t wait.

Monologues
Skip Greer
“How do I know what monologue to choose? Where should I focus? Why do my hands suddenly look like balloon animals? What is that person on the other side of the table thinking?” This class is an exploration of the tools that are most useful when creating a relaxed, focused, and successful audition. Over these five weeks, participants will select, prepare, and effectively bring to life a monologue of their own choosing, as well as create a new one from scratch. Come prepared to laugh, trust, and grow as we explore monologues and how they connect to all things theatrical.

Improvisation
Danny Hoskins
Embrace the unpredictable. This is absolutely where theatre begins! When three quarters of the world were illiterate and printed materials were not yet on the horizon, entire plays were improvisational works developed through characters and plots minted in the moment. Fine tune your ability to focus, listen, respond, and create. What might look like a form of “play” to others is actually an exercise designed to strengthen theatrical skills to create character and story. (All the while having fun and without memorizing!)
